The Colt IAR Commando is a complete, semi-automatic short barrel rifle (SBR), crafted to mirror the specifications of the select fire IAR in current use by FBI HRT. Designed for individual ownership, this limited-edition firearm delivers the compact power and precision of the original HRT contract rifle, offering unparalleled performance for tactical enthusiasts, and collectors. Chambered in 5.56x45mm NATO, the IAR6933-SBR features an 11.5" heavy barrel, a monolithic upper receiver, and a suite of mil-spec components, ensuring reliability and versatility in high-stakes scenarios like home defense or close-quarters training.
Engineered for mobility and sustained firepower, the IAR6933-SBR combines a lightweight, maneuverable design with the full ballistic potential of the 5.56mm round. Its proprietary heavy barrel and heat guard sink system provide 30-40% improved heat dissipation, making it ideal for sustained fire or suppressed use. Whether you’re navigating tight spaces or dominating the range, this SBR delivers the elite performance demanded by the FBI HRT, now accessible in a civilian-legal semi-auto configuration.

Performance and Design
Developed as a contract overrun for the FBI HRT, the Colt IAR6933-SBR is built to excel in close-quarters environments. Its 11.5" heavy barrel, thicker than a standard SOCOM profile, enhances heat dissipation and durability, maintaining accuracy during prolonged engagements. The KAC heat guard system reduces barrel heat by 30-40% compared to standard M4 platforms, ensuring performance under high-volume fire or when paired with a suppressor. The gas port is optimized for 50/50 suppressed/unsuppressed use, delivering smooth cycling.

The monolithic upper receiver eliminates rail shift, providing a rock-solid platform for optics, lasers, or night vision. Crisp, white laser-etched “T” markings ensure precise accessory placement, while the integrated gas block with folding front sight maintains compatibility with modern optics. The mil-spec forged lower receiver, paired with a Bravo B5 stock, offers durability and adjustability for any shooter. This rifle accommodates a wide range of 5.56mm ammunition, including NATO M855/SS109, U.S. M193, and longer-range Mk262 Mod1 77-grain rounds preferred by SOCOM

    Colt IAR

Posted by Stephen on 1st Mar 2026

The Colt IAR (Infantry Automatic Rifle) is what happens when a standard M4 decides to stop skipping leg day and starts eating its feelings in the form of heavy-profile barrels and heat sinks. It’s the "overachiever" of the Colt family—the one that showed up to the party with a massive radiator and enough stamina to make a marathon runner look like a couch potato. Here’s why the Colt IAR is the heavy-metal masterpiece you didn't know you needed. 1. The Barrel: Thicker Than a Bowl of Oatmeal The heart of the IAR is its massive, heavy-profile barrel. While standard carbines start sweating and losing their dignity after a few rapid-fire magazines, the IAR just stares at you, stone-cold, asking, "Is that all you've got?" It’s designed to handle sustained fire without turning into a literal noodle. If you ran out of ammo, you could probably use the barrel as a structural support beam for a small bridge. 2. The Heat Sink: Keeping it Cool Colt added a massive heat sink under the handguards because, apparently, "getting too hot" is for mortals. The benefit: You can keep shooting until your trigger finger gets a cramp. The downside: It weighs enough that your left arm will eventually look like it belongs to a professional arm wrestler, while your right arm stays normal. People will ask questions. 3. Accuracy: The "Magical" Paradox Usually, "Automatic Rifle" is code for "I’m going to spray lead in the general direction of that zip code." But the IAR is surprisingly precise. It’s like a marksman rifle that accidentally joined a heavy metal band. You can deliver surgical single shots, or you can flip the switch and provide enough "suppressive fire" to make sure nobody in the target area wants to be awake for the next forty minutes. 4. Reliability: The Colt Pedigree It’s a gas-piston-operated beast (in the 6940 series lineage), meaning it runs cleaner than a politician during election week. It’ll chew through brass like a hungry goat and keep on ticking. It’s built for the guy who thinks "maintenance" is something that happens to other people. The Verdict Pros: You can shoot forever without the handguards melting into your gloves. Doubles as a gym membership due to the weight. Inherently more "main character" energy than a standard AR-15. Cons: Your wallet will weep at the price of the ammo required to actually enjoy it. Carrying it on a long hike is a great way to discover exactly where your lower back is located. Final Thought: The Colt IAR is the perfect choice for the person who wants the reliability of a tank, the accuracy of a watchmaker, and the weight of a small sun.

New, Colt, Runs great. Really needs a class III lower to take advantage of the cooling functions. Runs nicely with a LPE suppressor
